Mooney

Sky West Instruments has a solution to modernize your 43 plus year old Mooney with our Custom Instrument Panel Upgrade. This facelift is for 1962-1967, M20C – M20E Mooney aircraft. Later models may follow, check back at a later date.

Overview > This is a three piece aluminum panel like the original but with some extra mounting space and a modern layout and design. The pilot side panel is shock mounted; with the bottom three mounts vertical for compression loads. The radio / co-pilot panel is ridged mounted like the original. The lower panel is beefed up in thickness, has a rolled radius edge at the bottom for strength, safety and looks. Lower panel has an increased capacity for circuit breakers, up to 28.

Design > A lot of thought went into the engineering behind the design of this panel to make it user friendly with removal and installation of instruments, circuit breakers, and if need be, removal of pilot and radio / co-pilot panels without extreme effort. The face of the panel is vertical when the plane is in level flying condition. The lower panel is mounted 15 degrees tilted forward as like stock. The push-pull controls in the lower panel have a unique two piece machined bushing sloped 15 degrees, each pair is opposite in relation with each other, so the push-pull controls are now mounted level instead of sloping upward 15 degrees. With this arrangement you have more room to lower the radio stack.

Options > Instrument lighting, dual light dimming system, two auxiliary power jacks, two locations for music jacks, padded glare shield that snaps into place as the original did, an area for standby vacuum push-pull control knob.

Specifications > .090 2024 T3 Alcald aluminum panels. .071 2024 T3 Alcald aluminum lower panel. Machined textured finished and black anodized color, overlaid with custom two part epoxy paint silk screen labeling. Copper electrical buss bars, up to twenty eight Klixon circuit breakers, custom machined radio mounting rails for your stack.

Installation > Sky West Instruments will need the aircraft for a minimum of two months for this custom instrument panel upgrade. Sky West Instruments is an Instrument shop, not an Avionics shop. Depending on radio choice and work to be done in that area, will further determine the time frame. Owner needs to figure out the Avionics configuration and contract an Avionics shop to do any work in this area. I will need all the new and used radio chassis along with the back plates to be used so I can measure, fit and machine the rails for proper radio stack fitment. I will mount the radio chassis to the panel. The wiring, interfacing, and radio sign off will be through an Avionics shop that you contract with.

Legality > The panel is not STC’d, but will go through a FAA 337 Form Field Approval process by Sky West Instruments, FAA Repair Station # AK4R053M, to make this instrument panel upgrade legal for your specific aircraft.
